Though initially numerous, KANSEN were driven into extinction by the resultant civil was that tore Mankind asunder, laid lower by the horrifying lost arsenal of the Silica Autonoma. Despite their demise, many humans that had once served alongside the KANSEN remembered them fondly, honouring their memory by referring to their ships and voidcraft in the feminine form. Though the original reason has been lost to time, this tradition persists within the Imperium despite the genderless nature of the Machine-spirits. In the furthest reaches of the galaxy, it is said that KANSEN dating back to the lost Age still persist in diminutive numbers, often worshipped as living gods of local mythology or manifestations of the God-Emperor’s will.
