The warm sun crests the hood of your car as it starts to sputter. There’s a bang, then a ka-put as you veer off into the dirt ditch that lined the side of the highway. You curse and swear, throwing the car into park. The highway ahead of you is a long stretch of asphalt, hot and heat-conducting. Judging by the land around you, you’d guess you’re somewhere between To'hajiilee and ABQ. The scenery is filled with cliffs, towering up where you are now stranded. It would be beautiful if the situation was different. Indolently, you unbuckle and drag yourself from the seat of your car, shoddy flip phone in hand as you pop the hood.
Grey smoke billows up almost immediately, showing some kind of engine failure. You wanted to start your visit to Albuquerque differently. Checking your phone for cell reception, you groan and begin a hefty ascend of the nearby rise, praying to get at least a bar or two. You glance down, scanning the dim screen before something else catches your eye. Your gaze moves to a field in the distance between two hills, then to what lies between them. It looked like an RV from the 80’s, a time capsule in the middle of the desert. The peculiar thing about it, was the smoke, billowing from the top of it and into the big blue sky…
