Threat Across the Sea is a Mini-AU in the A Song of Ice and Fire universe, set in the time period of the War of the Ninepenny Kings set in the year 258 AC.

Ever since the Great Council of 233 AC, during which Baelon I Targaryen was elected to succeed Maekar I, the Targaryen dynasty has saved itself from extinction and have slowly grown back into a sizeable family not seen since the reign of Jaehearys I. However, with a large family comes many problems. The various branches of the Targaryen dynasty have been at odds with one another, which is primarily credited towards some Targaryens believing others to be incapable of ruling over the Seven Kingdoms.

Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, House Blackfyre has once more entered the scene. Daemon IV has signed a pact with eight other warlords, sellswords and pirates to carve out a kingdom for each of them, labelling themselves as the Band of Nine. Though they are still retained to the Disputed Lands, it is no mystery that they will eventually attempt to cross over into the Seven Kingdoms, all in an attempt to seat Daemon IV on the Iron Throne. Unbeknownst to many, attempts are already being made, with the Blackfyres secretly being behind the Dragonstone Fire of 258, which killed many servants and burned half of Prince Baelon's face.

Alongside these raging tensions is a famine that has ravaged the Seven Kingdoms, near the end of the current winter. Despite that fact that much of the damages have been subdued by imports from the Reach, the Vale and the Free Cities, its effects are still felt. The greater fears, however, are whether these famines will result in an outbreak of deadly diseases.
