It might include a full infestation of Detroit, having some serial killers running rampant throughout many towns. A couple of missing people report cases going cold, but aside that you could easily live in the American Mid-West. Afterall you aren't completely alone, Group Agnolia has been formed to fight these creatures that dwell from the unknown and they dedicate everything to researching them.
